The Plant Protection Regulations will protect the agricultural and forestry sectors of the Canadian economy be preventing the introduction into Canada and the spreading within or from Canada of injurious plant pests (e.g. insects and diseases). The regulations will contain provisions for the disposition, treatment, quarantine and detention of things that are infested or suspected of being infested with a plant pest. These provisions will enable the Department to deal with plant pest outbreaks within Canada in a quick and efficient manner. The regulations have been written in a manner which, in comparison to Plant Quarantine Regulations, grants inspectors adequate powers to handle any plant pest situation which may arise.
